Also making it less likely you would wear out a disc and need to buy another. Seems like a person is almost forced to just rip all there movies unencrypted and put them on a hard drive so you can play it anywhere.

So another words the way they have made things it is easier to use something to crack the code and rip the movie into a unencrypted form save on my computer easy to share or to steal and then they wonder why people do such things.

) but details I am going to leave to someone who feels pursuing that route is in fact a better option than chucking that bull in the garbage bin and/or illegally downloading the movie you have a license to from someone who has already cracked it or obtained it from a different source. If it's a matter of a new disc with BD+ encryption there's seemingly beta-level support out there (see e.g. I do not own a Blu-ray drive nor discs, but as far as I am aware that will mean you're, potentially "for now" if it's a simple matter of the key not having been added yet, simply out of luck with that specific discs / those specific discs. Not much i like out there and not much time to care haha I told her to stop getting blu rays then there was 1 movie i actually wanted to see so she pre ordered it a few months ago on Blu ray Gotta love her thou haha I might watch a movie myself once every year or so. We have DVD players all over the place and spares sitting in boxes because people keep giving them to me. The bad part is the wife picked up several movies on Blu ray rather then DVD for the last several years.

I did finally replace my Blu ray player for my TV a couple days ago. Good thing i don't like X-men or star wars otherwise we couldn't be friends lol I don't watch many movies most of my time is outside. Well i guess we wont be talking about where i live then haha But given that the newest X-Men or Star Wars or other such infantile garbage seems to forever hold captive the general public, more than "potential" it is never going to be. The only potential real solution to this kind of industry nonsense is to stop consuming their products, and including not subscribing to umpteen different, provider/producer-specific streaming services, and to let it be known why. The way to watch Blu-ray on Linux is to bypass the protection sometimes not possible, and depending on jurisdiction, possibly illegal (which, mind you, is what the other advise in this thread amounts to certainly if you're American). "For Linux" nowhere as far as I know, and not even sure about for Windows I was referring specifically to a stand-alone, "hardware" Blu-ray player. Menu support can be a bit problematic.īad part is where do you buy a industry standard player for linux anyways? But the latest version of Kodi has been pretty solid for me. When I switched to Linux things didn't work well.

Then had to buy another $40 software that is a terribly clunky program (but does work well with full support for discs and menus).

Then that software stopped working when I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. But I ended up buying a $40 drive, then realized that I needed to spend another $30 on software. I remember really thinking it was cool that I could easily play DVD movies on my computer when they came out.

I had Archer seasons 1-6 on Blu Ray, and suddenly season 7 went only to DVD. They don't even release Blu Rays for some stuff anymore. Yeah, Blu Ray discs didn't seem to gain much popularity. I will try your suggestions and report back. It is amazing because i hear about people using a computer for there hole entertainment connected to there TV and it is this hard just to play blu rays haha Maybe they are just using places like amazon or netflix. I guess i trust linux and its users more to not try evil things. I tried several on windows that wouldn't work and stopped trying when i started finding programs that was a bit iffy and thought maybe i will be better off on linux. Yes windows has the issue to for sure haha. But I find Kodi offers a better experience. Then there are a few programs you can use to playback the discs (with the menus). I've had a lot of success with the keys available here: Ĭopy the KEYDB.cfg file into the folder (make it if it doesn't exist) ~/.config/aacs It's kind of up to the community to get the keys. The problem is that the discs have encryption (even Windows has this problem). You can get Blu Ray movies/TV working on Linux like a normal Blu Ray player.
